HR can change the percentages under "1st Period" and "2nd Period" so that the total is less than or more than 100%. Let's take the example of an employee with a 40 hour working week but the daily hours are not divided evenly across week (which would be 8 hours per day). Instead, the employee works 6 hours on Monday and Tuesday, 8 hours on Wednesday, and 10 hours on Thursday and Friday. In this example, Monday and Tuesday are 75% (of an 8 hour day), Wednesday is 100%, and Thursday and Friday are 125%. It is then also possible to allocate the total percentage unevenly between the morning ("1st Period") and afternoon ("2nd Period") because the employee's work hours are not divided evenly between the morning and the afternoon. For example, if on the 10 hour working day (Thursday or Friday) the employee's work schedule is 2 hours in the morning and 8 hours in the afternoon, HR could weight "1st Period" as 25% and "2nd Period" as 100% (so a total of 125%).
