PeopleWeek does not block the possibility of an employee requesting (and their manager or HR approving) vacation days that exceed their contractual entitlement. The system is deliberately designed to be flexible. This allows an employee to exceed their entitlement in one year, carry over a negative balance, and then have less days' vacation entitlement in the following year. Vacation balances are clearly displayed in the system, which means that employees and managers are aware that the request will result in a negative balance if it is approved. The manager can then decline the employee's request if that is the final decision.
