A parent department is the department into which another department reports. It is possible to have an unlimited number of parent departments in a hierarchy. The parent department managers have access to the profiles of all the employees within the subordinate departments, i.e. the same access as the employees' direct managers. However, parent department managers are not involved in approval workflows.
